Tom DeCesare
After 40 years managing wealth management operations, Tom DeCesare retired from corporate life to pursue a very different kind of mission. He founded Empowerment Solutions with a belief that thoughtful innovation can make everyday life safer, easier, and more dignified for people who need assistance with bathing.
That includes people living with neurological conditions such as MS, Parkinson’s disease, and ALS; individuals recovering from a brain injury or stroke; and older adults who may no longer feel safe standing in the shower. Tom wants to be an advocate and champion for their independence.
Today, Tom is focused on bringing ShowerMate™ to the individuals and families who can benefit from it most. He believes ShowerMate has the potential to provide greater independence, privacy, and dignity for users while also reducing the physical and emotional demands placed on caregivers, who are often spouses, children, or other family members.
For Tom, Empowerment Solutions is more than a business. It is an opportunity to take the experience, discipline, and problem-solving skills developed over a long corporate career and apply them to something deeply meaningful: helping people live with greater dignity, safety, and independence.
Our Story
ShowerMate™ was invented for Judy, who had multiple sclerosis.
Judy often said that one of the things she hated most about MS was losing the ability to bathe independently. It wasn't just the loss of independence—it was the loss of dignity that came with needing someone else to help her with something so personal.
Her son-in-law, a hydraulic engineer, listened to Judy and thought, there has to be a better way. So he invented one!
Several generations later, ShowerMate™ is a patented automated bathing system designed to wash a person from head to toe—including areas that are extremely difficult to clean without assistance. The user simply needs to be able to sit, maintain minimal balance, and press a button.
The goal is simple: give people back the ability to bathe themselves—and with it, a little more independence, privacy, and dignity.
We believe there is nothing else quite like ShowerMate™ on the market today. Now our mission is to get it into the homes and facilities of the people who need it.
